Your Eye Care, Upgraded: How the Oculus Pentacam with CSP Enhances Diagnosis and Contact Lens Fitting

At our office, we use the Oculus Pentacam® — a cutting-edge 3D imaging tool that gives us highly detailed maps of your cornea (the front of your eye) and surrounding area. With the optional CSP (Cornea Scleral Profile) feature, we can scan a much wider area than traditional machines. This means better care, more precise contact lenses, and faster results.

How the Pentacam Helps Keratoconus Patients

  • Detects early signs of change using advanced 3D imaging of both the front and back of the cornea — something older systems can’t do.

  • Tracks subtle changes in shape and thickness over time, allowing earlier diagnosis and proactive treatment decisions.

  • Uses specialized analysis (ABCD Progression Display) to detect progression months earlier than standard topography.

  • Allows us to confidently monitor if your condition is stable — or if it’s time to take the next step in treatment.

  • Non-contact, dye-free, and comfortable — takes just seconds per eye.

How the Pentacam Improves Scleral Lens Design

  • Captures a full 3D map of the front of your eye — not just the cornea but also the sclera (the white part where large lenses rest).

  • Helps design custom-fit scleral lenses that align perfectly with your unique eye shape — improving comfort, vision, and lens stability.

  • Reduces the number of trial lenses needed — often leading to faster fittings and fewer visits.

  • Especially helpful for patients with irregular corneas or hard-to-fit eyes.

  • Allows us to send precise shape data directly to lens labs for a personalized design.

How the Pentacam Enhances Ortho-K (Nighttime Vision Correction)

  • Scans a much larger area than standard corneal topographers, giving us better information for designing ortho-K lenses.

  • Shows the true shape and elevation of your cornea — not just curvature — for more accurate lens design.

  • Reduces risk of unwanted contact or pressure at lens edges and improves predictability of corneal reshaping.

  • More precise design can lead to better outcomes, which are especially important in growing children or patients with high prescriptions.

Why It Matters

Most clinics use only topography, which measures a smaller area and only the front surface. The Pentacam goes further — measuring both front and back surfaces, thickness, and up to 18mm of the eye's surface — giving you more accurate care, better lenses, and faster results.

  • Faster.

  • More Comfortable Lenses.

  • Better Vision.

  • Safer Monitoring.
